The Simon Property Group has begun to form a proposal concerning the redevelopment of the Brea Mall today with a Notice of Preparation.

In 2018, the Simon Property Group proposed redevelopment of the Brea Mall as a result of Sears shutting its doors. The 17.5-acre area in the southwest portion of the mall is to be associated with mixed retail stores, resort-style fitness center, and a public gathering space. The project also involves demolishing the Sears store, associated auto center, and 12-acres of surface parking. The project would essentially result in a net increase of 149,625 square feet of retail use.

The city of Brea and its residents come together in hopes of making the Brea Mall a better upscale location. In August 28, 2019, a community meeting was held at the Brea Civic and Cultural Center for the public to review exhibits and understand more about the Brea Mall renovation project.

Six years ago, the Brea Mall underwent a major renovation that took one year to complete. The new children’s play area, larger elevators, glass handrails, new signage, and new flooring and landscaping ended in a Renovation Celebration. The festivities marked the success of the renovation and explained the continuing advancement towards a better mall.

“The Brea Mall is an important part of our community,” City Planner, Jennifer Lilley claims. “It is a regional draw and a great support to our residents and our employment base, so we’re excited to know that Simon’s looking to reinvest in the Sears wing.”

The Brea Mall renovation project represents the continuing push for a better community and the unison of neighbors.
