Scientists Found Method to Heal Mice After Heart Attack

가교 0

At the University of Houston, researchers have developed a new technology to regenerate the hearts of mice after a heart attack. It has only been tested on mice, but it may be a treatment for heart diseases in humans.

Using genetic technology, scientists added synthetic messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) that was altered to give instructions to the body to replicate cardiac muscle cells. Heart muscle cells were able to replicate in a day and the heart was returned to normal function over the next month. The added mRNA in the cell will disappear within a few days.

Less than 1% of cardiac muscle cells can be replenished. This means that we die with the cardiac muscle tissue we had since the first month of life. The new technique was able to replicate this cell and regenerate the heart itself.

It is yet to be studied, but the method could be a possible cure for humans.  It is not known if the translation was completely successful, but researchers will be conducting additional studies to learn further about the method.
