On Friday, February 11, a woman and the suspect were killed and nine officers were injured in a standoff at a home in Phoenix.

The standoff occurred when the police received a call saying that a woman had been shot.

Upon arriving at the house, an officer was invited inside, but ended up being shot multiple times by the suspect, 36-year-old Morris Jones.

Soon after, a man, who is believed to be a family member of the suspect, exited the house with a baby, which he left on the ground before being detained by the police.

However, when police moved to secure the baby, Jones proceeded to open fire, injuring eight more officers. Many news stations reported that shots could be heard every five minutes throughout the standoff.

After an unknown amount of time, the baby was finally secured after the arrival of the SWAT team. The baby sustained no injuries during the altercation.

When the SWAT team was finally able to enter the house, they found the suspect dead and a woman, who was later identified as the suspect’s girlfriend, critically injured.

The woman died soon after at a hospital. It is unknown whether the suspect died from the standoff or killed himself.

“I cannot recall an incident in city history where so many officers were injured,” Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego said at a news conference a few hours later. “A baby is safe today because of our Phoenix police officers.”
