Typhoon Hinnamnor Hits South Korea
On August 27, 2022, a storm was noted in the western Pacific Ocean, and the storm quickly grew, becoming Typhoon Hinnanmnor after two days of its formation. This typhoon went through countries in the western Pacific Ocean like Japan and China and caused damage to those countries.
Many cities like Pohang and Geonju in southeastern South Korea had been damaged. More than 66,000 people experienced power outages, flights were canceled, and schools were also closed.
In Pohang, South Korea, 7 people died and 2 people were saved in an underground parking lot while they tried to move their cars out. Pohang had much heavier rainfall compared to other cities at that time, which led to flooding in the underground parking lot.
Typhoon Hinnamnor dissipated on September 7, 2022. Many typhoons and other extreme weather events are observed due to global warming and more weather events like this typhoon are predicted to transpire.
