Major corporations have advocated for covering all travel expenses for employees seeking abortions out of state in the wake of the Roe v. Wade overturning. Disney, Netflix, Comcast, Sony, Meta, and other businesses have decided to publicly announce their new stance.

On Friday, June 24, Disney told all employees that they recognize the severity of the situation  and will “remain committed to providing comprehensive access to quality and affordable care.” According to Disney, regardless of location, the company will guarantee that all family planning and reproductive healthcare is covered. In addition, they will pay for all travel expenses for employees unable to access abortions in their state. One of Disney’s major amusement parks, Walt Disney World, is located in Florida, where Gov. Ron Desantis has already initiated abortion restrictions.

Netflix has created a new policy offering employees $10,000 in travel reimbursement for cancer treatments, transplants, gender-affirming care, and abortion. Warner Bros. also expanded its Healthcare policy by allowing benefits to cover all travel expenses. In addition, Live Nation posted a “WE STAND WITH WOMEN” Instagram post where they adamantly stated, “We are covering travel expenses for our employees who need access to women’s healthcare services outside their home state.”

Although most individuals favored these new policies, many disagreed with the corporations’ motivations. Ironically, Comcast, one of the first companies to implement travel reimbursement, has actively donated to anti-abortion committees. Companies that have previously contributed to the funding of anti-abortion organizations have come under fire for their performative activism.
