State and federal authorities have accused 13 men of multiple crimes to be linked to an alleged coup against Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan. This plot included months of preparation and even rehearsals to abduct the governor from her vacation home. Six men were arrested by the FBI and accused of trying to abduct the governor, while seven others connected to the framework were arrested and charged with threats of state terrorism targeting law enforcement officers.

Six men were charged in federal court to have anti-government organizing backgrounds, as well as an interest in fighting what they perceived as President Donald Trump's "uprising." Moreover, pro-Trump and anti-government material was shared by some of the seven men facing separate state terrorism charges for their actions with a group called the Wolverine Watchmen. These men have not appeared or entered pleas in court yet.

A senior federal law enforcement official said federal agents learned that the Wolverine Watchmen party believes in the "boogaloo" campaign, which is primarily committed to eradicating the state and murdering law enforcement officers. In recent months, self-described supporters of the boogaloo movement have perpetrated acts of violence across the country and killed police officers, mostly in attempts to spark what they claim would be a second civil war.

Whitmer praised the foiling of the plot by law enforcement but criticized President Trump for instigating violence. Whitmer stated in a conference, "Last week, the president of the United States stood before the American people and refused to condemn white supremacists and hate groups like these two Michigan militia groups. Stand back and stand by, he told them.”
