Pat Robertson Dies at the Age of 93
Pat Robertson, known for his conservative presence in the media, who inflamed conservatism and Christianity, amassing a major following on a national scale, often drawing criticism for his provocative political remarks, died Thursday at the age of 93.
Robertson’s organization, Christian Broadcasting Network, announced his death with the statement, "Pat Robertson dedicated his life to preaching the Gospel, helping those in need, and educating the next generation.”
Robertson was one of the most well-known Christian broadcasters in the United States. He was a religious promoter and crusader for religion.
Robertson ascended to fame behind the support of social conservatives, becoming a national celebrity in the 1980s. He continued to rally conservative Christians behind former Republican presidents like George W. Bush and Donald Trump after contending for the position of Republican nominee himself in 1988.
Throughout his career, Robertson was mostly known as a ‘right-wing provocateur,’ resulting in venomous public scrutiny.
These are some of his most notable moments throughout his career.
One instance was when he was criticized for exaggerating his service record. Speaking out, Marine veterans asserted that Roberson would use his political power to help his son avoid direct combat.
Additionally, during the 9/11 attacks, Robertson shifted the blame to abortion doctors, feminists, the LGBTQ community, and the American Civil Liberties Union.
He was also subject to strict scrutiny after making an erroneous assertion that a Haitian earthquake was brought on by Black slaves who claimed to have formed a "pact with the devil."
Robertson was an extremely influential figure, and left behind a significant legacy.
